There’s something so serene and refreshing about a green bedroom. I had the chance to bring that aesthetic to life for one of my design clients recently! Ellen was looking easy, approachable ways to update their primary bedroom to help it feel styled and finished. Green was the perfect color to transform their space into a calming retreat that would feel cozy yet sophisticated. In today’s post, I’m sharing all the details of their green bedroom design plan, perfect for anyone looking for bedroom ideas for slanted ceilings.
Ellen mentioned she might be interested in a moody green color, so I took that and ran. This design is in a blended modern, traditional style with a moody influence, and works with their bay windows, tall walls, and slanted ceiling.

How To Create A Bedroom Design Plan
Whenever updating a bedroom, consider…
- What can stay?
- What can be changed?
- What needs replaced?
- What needs added?
Maybe you have a few pieces in your bedroom that you know you want to keep–whether because you like them or due to budget. To help reduce waste, is there anything you can upcycle, repaint, reupholster, or DIY in some way to elevate the look? If so, make a plan to work on that next.
Decide what you need to replace and what to add in your bedroom design plan. Make a shopping list so you know what to look for! Here’s a general list to help you:
- Bedding
- Blankets
- Accent pillows
- Headboard/bedframe
- Nightstands
- Dresser
- Seating (bench, chair, couch, etc)
- Lamps
- Flooring
- Rug
- Window treatments (curtains, shades, blinds, etc.)
- Wall decor
- Wall treaments
- Wall paint
- Ceiling treatment
- Ceiling light(s)
- Storage
How To Decorate Tall Walls in a Bedroom with Slanted Ceilings
One tricky part to a bedroom design like this is what to do in a small bedroom with tall ceilings. Even more so, with slanted ceilings.
Decorating tall walls can be tricky because your instinct might be to fill the wall space with lots of pieces, or one. or two big pieces. But you have to make sure it doesn’t overwhelm the small space.
One solution is to use a wall treatment instead of wall decor.
For this bedroom idea with slanted ceiling plan, I suggested a simple floor-to-ceiling board and batten around the whole room. This is easy to DIY, and easy to add along the slanted ceiling too.
Vertical board and batten would draw your eye upwards and make the walls feel finished and styled, without the need for tons of wall decor in a small space.
This would help anchor the room and connect the tall ceiling to the floor better.
See how much of a difference the board and batten could make in this space? So simple, and so effective.
Styling Bay Windows in A Bedroom Design
What a cute spot for an office nook. I love Ellen’s desk right up against these windows, but this nook needs a little something more to it.
There’s not a lot of “stuff” you can add to this space, so it’s all about being intentional with what’s there.
Design Solution 1: Patterned Shades
Roman shades would bring in some pattern, color, texture, and make more of a statement in this nook. With this being a workspace, curtains don’t quite make sense–they could feel too cluttered and be in the way. Plus, curtains would be hard to hang with the window angles.
Design Solution 2: Statement Desk and Chair
Next, create some drama with a beautiful desk and a statement chair that fits with the other furniture in here. Dark browns, blacks, or creams. This will help this view be more of a focal point in this room.
Design Solution 3: Picture Frames
Adding stacked picture frames on both sides of the windows will make this space more of a feature. Add a plant to one side as well for some greenery.
In the future, they could replace the desk with a built-in bench for a sunny place to sit.
Bedroom Ideas for Slanted Ceilings: Interior Design Rules to Know
An easy way to create a dramatic look in a bedroom is with a bold paint color. I recommended something earthy like a dark green for this space.
When using a dark paint color, keep in mind your white ceiling might suddenly feel even brighter.
With tall walls and a slanted ceiling too, your eye will naturally go upwards and notice the heavy contrast in colors between the walls and ceiling.
For this reason, I always recommend adding a beautiful ceiling treatment. Give your eyes something beautiful to look at there. It will add so much to the look and feel of the bedroom design.
A slanted ceiling is a great opportunity for a treatment like tongue and groove and natural wood beams. Make it a statement!
Other design option is to color-drench the room. This means to paint the walls and ceiling the same color, creating a dramatic effect.
(Be careful using a dark color when color-drenching though–it can get dark fast.)
When brainstorming bedroom ideas for slanted ceilings, remember that ceiling treatments help tie everything together and make the angles look intentional and beautiful.

Best Rugs for Green Bedrooms with Slanted Ceilings
Tans, creams, oranges, reds, grays, and blacks all go really well in a green bedroom.
I recommended a red/cream/black rug for this particular bedroom to contrast with their carpet and give a little bit of color and pattern there.
Soft rugs work best for bedrooms—something cozy for your feet when you climb out of bed. If you’re exploring more bedroom ideas for slanted ceilings, remember that a rug helps ground the space and define areas within the room.
I put together more rug options that work for a green bedroom design plan over on this post!
Plus, I put together ideas for bed frames, accent pillows, nightstands, and more that work well in green bedrooms.
Adding Personal Touches to a Green Bedroom
A great way to personalize your space is to add family photos or sentimental decor. If you have any pieces passed down from family members, try incorporating them into your bedroom design plan.
Start looking for unique decor that can become legacy pieces for future generations—something timeless and beautiful. You could incorporate photos of loved ones in a few picture frames on the wall, on a dresser, or on a nightstand too.
When thinking through your unique bedroom ideas for slanted ceilings, remember to add in meaningful, intentional pieces.
